Training description
To learn about the DS8000 storage subsystem and its hardware components and logical structure. You will configure the DS8000 storage subsystem using the DS8000 Storage Manager GUI and review the DS CLI for script configuration functions. You will also perform dynamic data relocation using the Easy Tier feature.
Participant profile
This course is designed for system administrators, architects and storage professionals. Anyone who needs to learn more about DS8000 implementations and experiment with them in an actual test configuration.

– Unit 3: DS command line interface
– Exercise 0: Lab setup and initial instructions
– Exercise 1: DS8000 DS CLI: Installation and configuration
– Exercise 2: DS8000 DS CLI: DDM, array locations, arrays, ranks and extension pools
– Exercise 3: DS8000 DS CLI: LCU, CKD and PAV volumes.
Day 2
– Unit 4: DS8000 Storage Manager graphical interface
– Exercise 8: DS8000 Easy Tier: dynamic volume relocation
– Exercise 4: DS8000 Storage Manager: arrays, ranks and extension pools
– Exercise 5: DS8000 Storage Manager: LCU, CKD and PAV volumes
– Exercise 6: DS8000 Storage Manager: configuration of I/O ports
– Exercise 7: DS8000 Storage Manager: other features
Day 3
– Exercise 9: DS8000 Easy Tier: Dynamic pooling
– Unit 7: Business Continuity

Required preparation of participants
You should complete:
- Introduction to data storage
- Storage management basics
You should own:
- Understand DASD and date sets and how client hosts access data directly or through FICON channels
