Training description
This desktop course introduces the basic components, optional features and servers that are provided in z/OS. It focuses on the system service objects that are provided by the z/OS Base Control Program (BCP). Teaches students the functions of the main software base elements in managing tasks, jobs, storage, data and problems. It also discusses how a system programmer can influence these functions.
Participant profile
This class is designed for those who are new to z/OS platforms but have a technical foundation in information technology. It is designed for those who need in-depth knowledge of z/OS.

Required preparation of participants
You should have a basic understanding of IS technology, and you should be familiar with z/OS concepts and how these systems support Enterprise servers. You can gain this knowledge by attending the Introduction to z/OS environment training course. You should also have hands-on experience in logging into TSO and working with JCL. You can gain this experience by attending the z/OS Quick Start training.

- Describing the process of translating a virtual address into a real address
- Explain the difference between paging and swapping
- Defining a task in z/OS
- Describing dispatching, interrupt processing, supervisor calls, inter-memory services and serialization
- Describing the purpose of the job entry subsystem (JES)
- Illustrating the task flow in a z/OS environment
- Describing the process of allocating data sets in z/OS environments
- Illustrate how to process an input/output request in a z/OS environment
- Describing the implementation of load management in a z/OS environment
- Explain the recovery processes in z/OS and list the tools available to diagnose problems
- Describing storage management concepts in z/OS
- Describe the features of UNIX system services available in z/OS environments
- Explain the network topologies and protocol support available on z/OS
- Describe system and network security in a z/OS environment
- Develop an overall plan for the installation and configuration of the z/OS environment
