- AIX administrative tools — SMIT (System Management Interface Tool), lsdev, lscfg, lsattr, odmget, hardware diagnostics
- Management devices — ODM (Object Data Manager), device configuration (mkdev, rmdev, chdev), disk devices, network and virtual
- Logical Volume Manager (LVM) — architecture (VG, LV, PP), creating and extending Volume Groups, Logical Volumes, mirroring
- File system management — JFS2 (Enhanced Journaled File System), creating, extending, repairing (fsck), mounting, quota
- Paging space — configuration, monitoring (lsps), adding and resizing, best practices for production environments
- Exercises: device configuration, creating VG/LV, JFS2 file system management, paging space configuration
Day 2: Users, scheduling, backup, startup and AIX installation
- User administration — creating (mkuser), group management, profiles, security (roles, authorizations), /etc/security/user, password policies
- Scheduling — Cron (crontab), at, batch, System Resource Controller (SRC), subsystems, service management
- Backup and recovery — mksysb (system backup), savevg (volume group backup), tar, cpio, restore, backup strategies (full, incremental)
- Startup and shutdown — boot process (firmware → bootlist → bosboot → rc.boot), runlevels, shutdown, restart, troubleshooting boot problems
- AIX and software installation — NIM (Network Installation Manager), installp, RPM, smit install_all, maintenance levels (TL, SP), live update
- Exercises: creating mksysb, restore from backup, startup/shutdown procedure, software packages and TL/SP installation
