DFSMShsm Implementation

This course prepares you to implement and manage DFSMShsm (DFSMS hierarchical storage manager). You will learn how to automate storage management tasks that optimize DASD space utilization and ensure data availability. You will learn the basic terminology and concepts of DFSMShsm, and explore the features and interfaces used to customize DFSMShsm processing to meet the storage management requirements of your installation.

Issues

Understand the relationship between DFSMShsm and DFSMS and become familiar with the functions of DFSMShsm and its operating environment.
Understand DFSMShsm’s operation of primary and secondary space management and configure the required automatic space management configuration.
Authorize special users for DFSMShsm commands and execute space management functions using authorized DFSMShsm commands.
Understand how DFSMShsm works regarding availability management and configure the required automatic availability management configuration.
Implement automatic backup and recovery support (ABARS) and perform dataset and volume management using authorized DFSMShsm commands.
Understanding DFSMShsm processing in large systems.
Understanding recovery using ABARS, recovery after loss of a data set or volume, recovery of control data sets and logs.
Using the AUDIT command to detect and fix discrepancies, and the LIST, QUERY and FIXCDS commands to fix error situations.
Manage and monitor DFSMShsm with log data sets and statistical information, and manage DFSMShsm tapes.
