Power Platform lets you automate processes that previously required the IT department — without writing code
Many company processes are manual, repetitive work: approving requests in emails, retyping data between systems, monthly Excel reports. Power Platform provides the tools to automate these processes and build apps around them — in a low-code model accessible even to non-technical people.
The four components of Power Platform
- Power Apps — building business applications (forms, registers, process handling) without coding. Replaces spreadsheets and manual processes with a custom app.
- Power Automate — workflow automation: approvals, notifications, moving data, document processing. It also includes RPA (desktop flows) to automate applications without an API.
- Power BI — analytics and data visualization: interactive reports and dashboards from many sources.
- Copilot Studio — building AI agents and chatbots connected to company data.
The components connect through Dataverse (a shared database) and hundreds of ready-made connectors (Microsoft 365, SAP, databases, web services).
When to use what?
- Power Apps — when you need an app to collect and handle data (e.g. a request register, leave applications).
- Power Automate — when you repeat the same process manually (approvals, notifications, data transfer).
- Power BI — when you need analysis and dashboards.
- Copilot Studio — when you want AI to handle a process (e.g. an HR/IT chatbot).
Who is Power Platform for?
For business analysts, process specialists and so-called citizen developers who know their process but are not programmers. It is also a tool that relieves the IT department — business teams build simple solutions themselves, within the governance set by IT.
