Nervous System Regulation in Office Work — Comprehensive Somatic Techniques Workshop
An intensive two-day nervous system regulation workshop for office, remote, and hybrid workers. The program consolidates five evidence-based methods of autonomic nervous system regulation — Post-Isometric Relaxation (PIR), Body Melody, Body Scan with Mindfulness 50/50, Yoga Nidra, and the autogenic training of Schultz and Jacobson — into one coherent, practical system of daily psychophysical hygiene. Participants learn to recognize and release the muscular tension built up in sitting posture, consciously regenerate after computer-based work, and build resilience to stress. The business outcome is a measurable reduction of sickness absence, lower burnout risk, better focus, higher employee retention, and tangibly improved sleep and recovery quality across the team.
Benefits
- After the training, the participant recognizes signs of nervous system dysregulation in their own body and can respond quickly before tension turns into pain
- After the training, the participant independently performs the full PIR sequence at the desk and on the mat while observing safety principles
- After the training, the participant applies the 3×30×130 rule and has a memorized library of 20 micro-activities for daily use
- After the training, the participant performs full Body Scans as well as shortened versions between online meetings
- After the training, the participant independently runs a Yoga Nidra session and uses the evening protocol to improve sleep quality
- After the training, the participant knows Schultz's autogenic training formulas and Jacobson's sequence and can apply them in stressful situations
- After the training, the participant holds an individual, realistic practice plan tailored to their lifestyle and work profile
- After the training, the participant brings to the organization concrete tools for preventing burnout and musculoskeletal disorders
Who is this training for?
Prerequisites
- Openness to working with your own body, breath, and self-reflection
- An exercise mat or blanket — Body Scan, Yoga Nidra, and autogenic training sessions are performed lying down
- Comfortable clothing that does not restrict movement (for both days of the training)
- Access to a computer with a camera and microphone in a quiet, private room
- No acute inflammation, fresh injuries, or medical contraindications to relaxation practice (consult a doctor if in doubt)
Training program
Module 1: Stress Physiology and Diagnostics of Tension in the Office Worker's Body
- The autonomic nervous system — sympathetic and parasympathetic branches: how the biology of stress works in the office environment
- Map of typical office-worker tension points — neck, shoulders, lower back, diaphragm, jaw, eyes
- Individual diagnostics — where you accumulate tension and how to recognize it during the workday
- Chronic stress vs. acute response — why office work dysregulates the nervous system
- Introduction to the 'window of tolerance' concept — when the body regenerates and when it depletes itself
Module 2: PIR — Post-Isometric Relaxation (Practice at the Desk and on the Mat)
- The PIR mechanism — why isometric tension followed by release produces deeper effects than stretching alone
- Desk-based PIR sequence — 12 exercises you can do in business attire without leaving your workstation
- Mat-based PIR sequence — full 25-minute protocol for releasing the main muscle groups
- Breath control in PIR — synchronizing tension and release phases with inhale and exhale
- Practice safety — contraindications, when not to use, how to modify for existing conditions
- Individual practice guided by the trainer with immediate corrective feedback
Module 3: Body Melody — Micro-Activity, Movement Ergonomics, and Safe Lifting
- The 3×30×130 rule — minimum movement dose protecting against the effects of sedentary work
- Micro-activity every 30 minutes — a library of 20 exercises lasting 60–90 seconds, invisible to surroundings
- Safe lifting and carrying — protecting the spine in everyday home and office tasks
- Movement ergonomics — how to stand up, sit down, bend, and reach without overloading joint structures
- Embedding Body Melody in the workday routine — calendar anchors, body signals, reminder systems
Module 4: Body Scan — Scanning the Body and Releasing Tension
- What Body Scan is — a somatic awareness practice based on Jon Kabat-Zinn's research (MBSR)
- Full 20-minute body scanning protocol guided by the trainer
- Shortened 5- and 10-minute versions for use between online meetings
- Recognizing subtle body signals before tension becomes pain
- Working with reactivity — what to do when discomfort or emotion arises during scanning
Module 5: Mindfulness 50/50 — Awareness in Work Activities
- The 50/50 concept — directing attention inward (body, breath) and outward (task, screen) at the same time
- Seated mindfulness practice — posture, diaphragmatic breath, awareness of contact points with the chair
- Mindful email writing, mindful document reading, mindful participation in online meetings
- 1-minute micro-meditations before key tasks — resetting attention and lowering arousal
- Daily activities as mindfulness anchors — drinking water, answering the phone, walking to the printer
Module 6: Yoga Nidra — Deep Relaxation, Recovery, and Better Sleep
- Yoga Nidra ('yogic sleep') — the neurophysiology of the state between wakefulness and sleep
- Full 40-minute Yoga Nidra session guided by the trainer (participants lie on a mat with a blanket)
- Shortened 15-minute protocol as a reset after computer-based work
- Sankalpa — working with intention in a state of deep relaxation
- Yoga Nidra as a tool for improving sleep quality — evening protocol for home use
- Audio materials for ongoing self-practice — a library of recordings provided to participants
Module 7: Autogenic Training of Schultz and Jacobson with Healing Visualizations
- Schultz's autogenic training — six basic formulas (heaviness, warmth, heart, breath, solar plexus, forehead)
- Jacobson's progressive relaxation — tension-release sequence of 16 muscle groups
- Autosuggestion — reinforcing formulas for working with tension, anxiety, and chronic fatigue
- Healing visualizations — guided mental imagery supporting body recovery
- Combining techniques — when to use Schultz, when Jacobson, when both in a single session
Module 8: Integration — Individual Practice Plan + Audio/Video Materials for Continued Work
- Individual audit — which techniques best fit your lifestyle, work style, and conditions
- Weekly practice plan — a 7-day schedule combining all learned methods in a realistic dose
- Library of audio and video materials — recordings of guided sessions for independent practice at home and in the office
- Progress indicators — how to monitor changes in sleep quality, energy levels, and muscular tension
- Follow-up plan — what comes next, when to return to specific techniques, when to seek specialist support
